How U.S commandos rescued kidnapped American in Nigeria

There was an intense firefight with surveillance drones buzzing overhead. In the early hours of Saturday, October 31, 2020, U.S. Special Operations commandos carried out a predawn raid in northern Nigeria. The mission was to rescue an American citizen who had been kidnapped from his home in southern Niger Republic and hidden in neighboring Nigeria. The operation was carried out by Commandos from the Navy’s elite SEAL Team 6. The rescued American's name has been given as 27-year-old Philip Walton. The Americans tracked the phones of his attackers to this hide-out. “U.S. forces conducted a hostage rescue operation during the early hours of Oct 31 in northern Nigeria to recover an American citizen held hostage by a group of armed men,” said Jonathan Hoffman, who is the chief spokesman at the Pentagon. Schoolteacher tells Lagos Judicial Panel she lost 2 pregnancies in SARS custody

The teacher identified some of the SARS officers who allegedly tortured the couple as Phillip Rieninwa , Christian and Haruna Idowu. A teacher, Mrs Ndubisi Obiechina, has narrated how she lost two pregnancies while in custody of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) over a suspect to which she was distantly acquainted. Narrating her ordeal before the Lagos State Judicial Panel on EndSARS protest, Ndubisi said that she was detained and tortured along with her husband, Okwuchukwu, for 22 days by SARS in 2017. “They brutalised me in the name of interrogating me. As a pregnant woman, I did not eat or drink for one week and in the process I lost the baby. “It was later after I left SARS that I went to the hospital that I found that the baby was gone, and I had to flush it out, ” she said. President Buhari mourns Igwe Alex Nwokedi

President Muhammadu Buhari has commiserated with the Uthoko Na Eze Royal Family over the death of Igwe Alex Ezeoba Nwokedi, the Uthoko of Achalla. Delta relaxes curfew, restriction time now starts from 8 pm to 6 am

The Delta State Government has announced a relaxation of the curfew imposed after the hijack of the peaceful #ENDSARS protests by suspected miscreants. The Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, in a statement on Saturday said the curfew, which had run from 6 pm to 8 am will now be between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. with effect from Saturday, October 31. According to Aniagwu, the State Government expresses appreciation to Deltans for observing the curfew, which is expected to restore normalcy in the state. 67 persons bag 6 months jail term for violating sanitation law in Nasarawa

A Mobile Court sitting in Nasarawa State has sentenced 67 persons to six months imprisonment for violating Environmental Sanitation Laws in the state. The Judge, Mr Shittu Umar, while passing the sentence also gave the convicts an option to pay fines between N5, 000 to N50, 000. The Prosecutor, Mr Abubakar Mohammed , also a Chief Environment Officer, had told the court that the suspects were transacting their private businesses while the sanitation was ongoing. Mohammed said that the offences violated Section 9(2), of the State Environmental Sanitation Law. He urged the court to sanction them accordingly to serve as deterrent to others. Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources commended people of the state for their level of compliance during this month’s sanitation. The FCT Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Aliyu, has condemned the destruction by hoodlums of medical equipment worth billions of naira at the Central Medical Store in Kogi. NCDC confirms 170 new COVID-19 cases, 3 deaths

The agency says Lagos reported 106 new cases of the virus. The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 170 new COVID-19 cases with three coronavirus related deaths recorded in 10 states and Federal Capital Territory in the last 24 hours. The NCDC made this known via its verified website on Friday. The public health agency said that the new confirmed brings the nation’s total number of COVID-19 infections to 62,691. The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that more than 620,758 samples have been tested by the agency, out of which 62,691 were positive in the country. The agency stated that 181 patients were successfully treated and have now been discharged from isolation centres across the country. The health agency said that Lagos State reported 106 new cases of the virus, followed by FCT with 25 cases, Oyo had 14 cases. Edo and Kaduna reported 7 cases each, while Ogun had 4 cases. PSC warns police officers to return to their duty posts or face dismissal

For more than a week, many police operatives have refused to return to their duty posts following the recent killing of their colleagues by miscreants. Following the killing of over 20 police officers during the violence that followed the #Endsars protests across the country, the Police Service Commission (PSC) has warned officers over their reluctance to return to their duty posts. While advising police operatives in the country to put the death of their colleagues behind them, the commission said Public Service Rules, which also applies to members of the Nigeria Police Force, prescribes dismissal for anyone who deserts his job. Five bullet shell casings were seen by the Lagos Judicial Panel on Friday at the Lekki Tollgate Plaza, the scene of the alleged Oct. 20 shootings of #EndSARS protesters by officers of the Nigerian Army. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the nine-man Judicial Panel headed by Justice Doris Okuwobi (Rtd) saw the bullet shell casings on Friday during a visit to the scene as part of its investigations into the incident. Earlier in the day, the panel had left the venue of its sitting at the International Court of Arbitration, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos , to visit the Tollgate plaza scene of the shootings. The Olowu of Kuta in Osun, Oba Adekunle Oyelude has faulted claims by the Amnesty International that it tracked troops of the Nigerian Army to Lekki Toll Gate, where they allegedly shot at protesters on Oct. 20. The Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) said three persons died in an accident at Lotto, opposite NNPC Filling Station on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, on Friday. One person also sustained injuries in the accident which involved two vehicles, according to the agency.
