He challenged Akeredolu's victory on four grounds, including faulting the governor's emergence as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC, and deputy governor-elect, Lucky Aiyedatiwa were also joined in the petition.

The election was contested by a total of 17 candidates.
