'Anikulapo' is Kunle Afolayan's peace offering [Pulse Movie Review]

The filmmaker's Netflix partnership finally gets a long-desired facelift with his pulsating supernatural fantasy film set in 17th century Oyo kingdom. There is this thing about having too many hands in a pot of soup. If it goes bad, there is no way to single out a culprit. It is how I like to describe the partnership between Netflix and Kunle Afolayan- a meal that has too many hands. Over the past two years since Citation (acquired by the streamer), their partnership has failed to produce an Afolayan film at its core until Anikulapo . Folk-themed stories are a surefire choice with Kunle Afolayan. His creative juices are unapologetically unhinged with stories that come to a part-way between reality and folktale. Set in 17th century Oyo kingdom, the star-studded fantasy film spins a richly imagined plot that grips its audience from its opening shot. Saro, a young man on his quest for greener pasture, is at centre of the story's riveting plot. The principal characters in Ani

According to him, the stakeholders in

What exactly is Peter Obi doing differently?

Obi needs to understand that no one can set the country on the right path by hobnobbing with those that brought it to its knees. The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has been touted as the man that wishes to come to power to deliver the real change Nigerians desire. The Obi agenda has been well received among the youths who want to see a new Nigeria from 2023. A Nigeria that is devoid of political opportunists whose knees tenaciously pin down the country. Since the return of democracy in 1999, the economic and political powers in Nigeria have been within the same circle of people who are bereft of initiatives to turn around the fortune of the country in spite of its bountiful natural and human resources. The idea that politics should serve as a service to the people and the betterment of communities is novel to an average Nigerian politician whose belief is that politics is a career, and as such, the interest of the individual politician must always come first.

Ticket to Life: Another missed goal by the filmmaker [Pulse Contributor's Opinion]

The theory of perception was created by psychologist Anne Treisman. According to this view, our ability to see the world is based more on the human mind than on the eyes. Simply put, this indicates that our perceptions of the world are skewed due to our past encounters and knowledge we have learned. As I entered the cinema to see Ticket to Life, I made an effort to put any negative impressions of the filmmaker to rest. My first interaction with the director was through his film Tanwa Savage, which was detested by many moviegoers, commentators, and reviewers for a variety of reasonable reasons. Adebayo Adebayo when reviewing Tanwa Savage for Film Rats Club writes that “ It is really hard to find anything to like about this movie. One can point out its cinematography and set design, which were quite good, but even that is a low bar for Nollywood these days. The generous critic could also point out Bimbo Ademoye being the only one acting like she cares and is really the beacon in t

2023: Atiku will get 65 per cent of Benue’s votes, says party chieftain

A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) says the party’s Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, will get 65 per cent of Benue State votes. Mr Abraham Chila , who is a grassroots mobiliser expressed the optimism while speaking with newsmen on Sunday in Abuja. He said that in spite Gov. Samuel Ortom’s support for his Rivers counterpart, Gov. Nyesom Wike, in the power tussle within the PDP, Atiku would garner 65 per cent of the state votes. Ortom had said that unless Wike was appeased,PDP would risk losing the state votes during the 2023 presidential election. Chila said regardless of whatever action Ortom would take, during next year’s general elections, PDP and Atiku would always win elections in the state. He said that from 1999 to date PDP has become very entrenched in Benue. He added that for the fact that PDP National Chairman, Dr Iyorchia Ayu is from Benue, it made it imperative that nothing could change the voting pattern in the state. “You may wish to kno

ASUU strike: Lecturers not asking to be paid for work not done - Falana

Falana said the government knows what to do if they want the strike to end immediately. Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has argued that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) didn't ask the Federal Government to pay lecturers for services they didn't render. Why is this important: The Federal Government has been at loggerheads with ASUU since the commencement of the strike about seven months ago. All efforts to reach an amicable resolution seemed to have failed as the academic union insisted that the Federal Government must honour all the previous agreements between the two parties. However, the government claimed to have met almost all the demands made by ASUU, but the union was dissatisfied with the government's "No work, no pay policy" which meant that lecturers would have to forfeit their salaries for the period they've been on strike. Court favours FG: Earlier in the week, an Abuja Industrial Court ordered the union to immediately call o
