Police seal Bobrisky’s birthday party venues

Bobrisky had scheduled her 28th birthday party to hold at Gardens in Lekki Phase 1 and Paradise Boat Club, Victoria Island. Police operatives in Lagos have sealed the two venues, where the birthday party for Nigerian cross dresser, Idris Okunneye, aka Bobrisky was slated to hold on Saturday, August 31, 2019. Bobrisky, who turned 28 on Saturday had scheduled the celebration of his birthday for two locations in Lagos, with one to hold on Saturday at Gardens in Lekki Phase 1, while the second one would hold the following day at Paradise Boat Club, Victoria Island. Confirming the incident, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana said the police acted on intelligence to seal the venues. He said, “ The operation is currently ongoing. It is true that we have sealed up the venue of the party based on some intelligence. “Considering the pedigree of the celebrant, the event may likely cause a breach of public peace and it is expected that no immoral display should be allowed. “

Police release 123 men from Jigawa

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana says the men were searched but nothing incriminating was found on them. Following the controversial detention of 123 men, who were intercepted in Lagos with 48 motorcycles in a truck, the Lagos Police Command has released the men that were said to have come from Jigawa State.  Lagos State Task Force on Friday, August 30, 2019, seized the truck conveying the 123 men with their motorcycles after members of the public raised security concerns about the manner with which the men “conducted themselves”. 2 Unilag scholars attract €1,200,000 research grant

Two scholars from the University of Lagos have attracted a total of €1200,000, pounds (N540,000,000 million) for research. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the grants were from the United Kingdom Research and Innovation Global Challenges Research Fund. The scholars are Dr Sunday Adebisi, Director, African Research Universities Alliance ARUA Centre of Excellence in Unemployment and Skills Development, and  Prof. Timothy Nubi, Director, Centre for Urbanisation and Habitable Cities. Adebisi secured the grant for Partnership, Research and Capacity Building for Youth Unemployment Solutions in Africa while Nubi got the grant for African Research Network for Urbanisation and Habitable Cities. The duration of the research projects is 36 months –  from Sept. 1, 2019 to Aug. 31 2022. Niger Govt. orders evacuation of illegal motor parks

Niger government has directed Directors of Personnel Management in the 25 local government areas to enforce the evacuation of illegal operators of motor parks across the state. Alhaji Ahmed Matane, Secretary to the State Government, gave the directives when he visited the scene of patrol tanker explosion in Diko-junction along Abuja-Kaduna expressway on Saturday. National grid collapses for the 10th time in 2019

The collapse of the national grid has led to power generation dropping to zero megawatts(MW). For the tenth time in 2019, the national electricity grid collapsed again on Friday, August 30, throwing some parts of he country into darkness for hours. According to The Cable, the spokesperson of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said the grid collapsed around 2:01 p.m., but was restored around 9:01 p.m. It was reported that the incident has led to power generation dropping to zero megawatts(MW). In January, the grid collapsed four times and one each in February and April. In May, Pulse reported that the national grid collapses twice in 24 hours . Customers will continue to return mutilated notes to banks after Sept. 2 — CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Saturday said that the general public would continue to return mutilated bank notes to their banks after the Sept. 2 deadline. The Director, CBN Corporate Communications, Mr Isaac Okoroafor disclosed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos. NNPC commences repair of damaged oil pipeline in Delta

Malam Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director (GMD), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says the corporation has begun repair of its damaged Abura Crude Trunk line. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Abura Crude Trunk line at Otu-Jeremi town in Delta experienced an eruption on Friday. Kyari, who gave the assurance on Saturday in Benin shortly after he tee-off at the 2019 (NNPC) upstream golf tournament, said the repair would be completed in three days. “ It wasn’t an explosion, it was an eruption on our pipeline, our team has moved to site and in three days we are going to fix it. “We have curtail the spill that is coming out, so its not an explosion but an eruption because there was no fire in the place. “It will have no effect on power supply, we are going to fix it soon,’ ’ he said. The Kebbi Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Bagudu, has paid a condolence visit to the three familes whose six children drowned in the Unashi River in Dankowasagu Local Government of the state. Power generation to soon receive massive boost - ICRC

Mr Chidi Izuwah, the Director-General, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) says power generation in the country will soon witness a massive boost. Abia government says it has implicit confidence in indigenous contractors and will continue to engage them along with ‘Grade A’ contractors in road construction in the state. The Commissioner for Information, Chief Okiyi Kalu, stated this in a statement issued on the projects mapped out for completion in the first 100 days of Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu’s second tenure. NYSC arrests over 50 graduates with fake certificates at orientation camps

Three fake graduates caught in Taraba State claimed they graduated from the Isfop University of Cotonou in the Republic of Benin. Over 50 unqualified graduates, who register in the Batch B Stream II exercise with fake certificates have been arrested at the 37 orientation camps across the country. The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) announced the arrest of the fake graduates on Friday, August 30, 2019, saying they have all been handed over to the police for prosecution.  The NYSC management said that the verification of corps members credential was on, adding that any unqualified graduate caught during the exercise would not just be fished out but duly prosecuted. Nigeria’s airlines record 16,429 delayed flights in 6 months – NCAA

According to the document, 241 flights were cancelled for various reasons by the airlines. Domestic airlines operating in Nigeria recorded 16,429 cases of delayed flights between January and June 2019 according to figures released by the Consumer Protection Department of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). A document issued by the department and obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos, showed that 30,043 flights were operated by nine airlines during the period under review. According to the document, 241 flights were cancelled for various reasons by the airlines. It said the airlines in operation were Aero Contractors, Arik Air, Air Peace, Azman Air, Dana Air, Med-View, Overland, Max Air and Ibom Air. The document said Air Peace, which operated 11,889 flights, topped the chart of delayed flights with 6,359 and 91 cancelled flights.
