Unemployment: Skills acquisition way to go, Ayu tells FG, states

National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Iyorchia Ayu, has urged Federal and States Governments to resuscitate technical colleges as panacea to rising unemployment in the country. Ayu made the call in Asaba after joining Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on an inspecting visit to Government Model Technical College, Asaba built by Delta State Government, and urged governments at both levels to take a cue from Okowa. Only national Chairman, Secretary can authenticate membership cards- PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says only its national chairman and the national secretary that are vested with power to authenticate party membership cards. The party made the clarification in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba in Abuja on Saturday. The party stated this while making clarification on the membership eligibility to participate in congresses to elect the three-man ad hoc delegates who shall in turn elect party candidates for the 2023 general elections. It stated that the clarification became necessary following reports of misinterpretation in some chapters, particularly in Lagos State, where some party stakeholders are reportedly demanding that membership cards have to be authenticated. IPAC rejects NDLEA's call for drug integrity test on aspirants

The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has rejected the proposal that political parties should make drug integrity test part of its screening requirements for aspirants seeking elective offices in 2023 general election. National Chairman, IPAC, Yabagi Sani , stated this in a statement in Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has proposed that political parties should carry out drug test on all aspirants seeking to contest political offices on their platforms. A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Farah Dagogo, has been remanded in Police custody by a Port Harcourt Magistrate's Court. Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto North), on Thursday donated wrappers and cash to no fewer than 10,000 indigent women in Sokoto. Sokoto State govt to distribute 3.2m treated mosquito nets – Commissioner

The Sokoto State government is to distribute 3.2 million Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs), Health Commissioner Dr Ali Inname has said. Inname said the distribution is schedule to begin in June 2022. Already, he said, the state government has set up 16 planning and distribution committees to ensure a hitch free exercise. He also noted that government officials, non governmental organisations, community-based groups, traditional rulers, security agencies and journalists were included in the committees. The Commissioner explained that the state plans to reach five million people with the treated nets. The commissioner said that comprehensive malaria treatment is ongoing in 575 health facilities across the state. Inname cautioned people against misusing the nets. ”The state government is collaborating with USAID Malaria Illumination Initiative (PMI) to deliver 450,000 to 600,000 doses of malaria medicine to 575 supported health facilities in 23 local government area of the state.

PRP cautions public on fraudulent nomination fees in circulation

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has cautioned the public on fraudulent nomination fees in circulation, describing a circular pegging its nomination fees for elective public offices at certain amount as fraudulent. Death toll in Imo explosion rise to 110 — NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has disclosed that the death toll in Sunday’s illegal refinery explosion in Abaeze community Ohaji/Egbema Local Government of Imo had risen to 110. Acting Head of Imo/Abia Operations Office of the agency, Mr Ifeanyi Nnaji , disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday. Nnaji said more dead bodies were recovered in Orashi River, near the scene of the incident on Sunday, while some died at various hospitals to increase the total casualty figure so far. NAN reports that an illegal refinery situated at the Abaeze forest in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government exploded on Saturday and killed no fewer than 100 people. Emergency workers in Imo led by Nnaji had been on ground since the incident to carry out rescue operations and evacuate dead bodies. Rep. Kingsley Uju-Chima (APC – Imo) has renewed calls for the integration of artisanal refineries into the country’s refining regulations of the oil and gas industry. Uju-Chima representing Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta, Oru Federal Constituency said the proposed artisanal refinery was a possible permanent solution to the menace associated with illegal oil bunkering. The lawmaker made the call on Sunday following a visit to the site of Friday’s fire incident that killed over 100 people at an illegal bunkering site in his constituency. He said: “It is a national disaster which has put the entire community, local government area and constituency into a mourning mood.
