Tech: Samsung and Apple defend top two spots in the global smartphone market (AAPL)

One chart shows how the global smartphone market fared in the third quarter of 2017. Global smartphones sales continued to grow in the third quarter of 2017, and increased 3% from the same period last year according to data collected by Gartner. Global market leaders Samsung and Apple were able to defend the two top spots from Chinese competitors despite increased competition. As we can see in this chart from Statista , Samsung saw the most impressive quarter overall, with a whopping 19.3% increase in sales. According to Gartner, the last time Samsung saw this type of growth was the fourth quarter of 2015. The bump in sales can be largely attributed to demand for its new Galaxy S8 and Note 8 devices. In comparison to Samsung, Apple's growth looks meager, but it's important to note that Apple's major product of the year – the iPhone X – wasn't available for sale until October. ridoola.blogspot.com.ng

Live sports are in trouble. This is a preview of a research report from BI Intelligence, Business Insider's premium research service. To learn more about BI Intelligence, click here. Live sports — traditional TV's flagship bulwark against digital disruption — appears to be in trouble. Viewership across major sports programming like the NFL and English Premier League has underwhelmed in the 2016-17 TV season. Meanwhile, subscriptions for pay-TV and, in turn, for sports networks like ESPN, are in free fall. The causes behind the decline of live sports viewership are varied and complex. In addition to cyclical issues at play, sports programming is falling prey to the wealth of new content produced by the rise of new media platforms. And as more and more TV viewers cut the cord, live sports content itself is moving off the TV screen and onto other devices. Last year's NFL broadcasts on Twitter were just the beginning of digital disruption in the live sports arena. In fact

Tech: I wrote about how much I hate my iPhone X — and an army of Apple fans attacked me online

I said I didn't like my iPhone X, and a lot of people online didn't seem to like that. I wrote an article about why I hate my new iPhone X. A lot of people didn't agree with me. That doesn't change my opinion. When I published my article on the iPhone X , I was prepared for a bit of hate mail. After all, I was going against the consensus, and I knew many people didn't think my biggest complaint — that it's difficult to use with one hand — was anything to make a stink about. And if I didn't know that before I published, I certainly would have realized soon after. Both my inbox and my Twitter notifications flooded with reader responses, almost all negative and condescending. Apple fans are a notoriously loyal bunch — the company regularly appears on lists of consumers' most-loved brands — so it's no surprise the article's publication stirred a hornet's nest. Some people seem to have taken personally my wish to have a ph

Tech: Silicon Valley feels incredibly boring right now — here's what's really going on

Silicon Valley no longer owns the field for hot consumer technology — and that means the next wave of innovation will look much different. Pop quiz: What's the hottest consumer tech startup to come out of Silicon Valley this year? If you struggled to come up with an immediate answer for the next Facebook or Uber, you've identified the current climate in America's longtime capital of innovation. Sure, there's plenty of money and brains in San Francisco. But in a place constantly looking for the next big thing, the lack of a new breakout gadget or app can be deeply unsettling. Some even wonder if Silicon Valley has become ... boring. “Consumer tech has become popular culture, and in the US, popular culture is set in New York and Los Angeles, not in the Bay Area,” says Jeremy Liew, a partner at Snapchat investor Lightspeed Ventures. “So I’d say that we’re seeing a lot more consumer tech companies there than here."
