Kaduna government denies involvement in Dadiyata's disappearance

The government says it has no reason to hold Dadiyata or charge him to court. The Kaduna State government has denied involvement in the abduction of Abubakar Idris Usman, a lecturer and social media critic popularly known as Dadiyata. The 34-year-old was kidnapped from his residence in Barnawa neighbourhood in Kaduna on August 2, 2019 and has not been seen ever since. Due to his very public criticism of the Kaduna government and Governor Nasir El-Rufai , many have alleged that he was abducted by security agents working for the state. His family sued the authorities last year claiming he was illegally detained and demanded his unconditional release. Kogi election: PDP loses as Supreme Court upholds Gov Yahaya Bello’s victory

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the appeal of the candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Musa Wada and his party against the election of Mr Yahaya Bello as Governor of Kogi. The apex court in a unanimous judgment dismissed the appeal for lacking in merit and upheld the concurrent decisions of the Court of Appeal and the majority judgment of the Kogi Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. The lead judgment read by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji , held that the appellants were unable to prove allegations of electoral malpractices in the November 16 governorship election. President Buhari pledges world class infrastructure for Lagos, Kano, Abuja Airports

Police begins investigation into murder of councillor in Bayelsa

The Police Command in Bayelsa says it has begun investigations into the Saturday murder of Karma Agagowei, the Councillor representing Ward 6 of Sagbama Council Area. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it has lifted suspension earlier placed on some processes on its platforms to accommodate more requests from candidates who took the UTME prior to 2020. The board made this known in a statement in Abuja on Sunday by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Dr Fabian Benjamin. Lagos records 15 new cases as NCDC announces 138 more cases

Nigeria has now recorded a total of 53,835 cases of COVID-19 infections following the announcement of 138 new cases in the country. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed the new cases on Sunday, August 30, 20202, in 13 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. According to the NCDC, the bulk of the new cases were confirmed in Plateau State with 55 cases. Surprisingly, Lagos, the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria recorded only 15 cases, while Ebonyi and Oyo states recorded 11 cases each. twitter.com In Abia, eight cases were detected, Seven each in Anambra, Abuja and Rivers, six in Kaduna, five in Ondo, three in Kwara and one case each in Bauchi, Benue and Edo state. FRSC relaunches Operation Scorpion III in Lagos to impound unlatched containers

FRSC says during the the Operation Scorpion II in Lagos, 218 truck drivers were apprehended while 214 trucks were impounded. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says its special operational outfit tagged “Operation Scorpion III” aimed at impounding trucks with unlatched containers will start work on Monday in Lagos State. The Sector Commander of FRSC in Lagos State, Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos that the exercise would be a follow-up to the second phase held mid August. Ogungbemide said that the second phase of the special operation carried out between Aug. 10,2020 and Aug.16,2020 was a huge success in the state, hence, the need to launch Operation Scorpion III. The FRSC boss said that the command apprehended 218 truck drivers and impounded 214 trucks, during the Operation Scorpion II in Lagos.
