The Ondo governor says he'll treat his coronavirus infection at home. Ondo State governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), according to an announcement he made on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. The governor said he suffered from malaria which was treated, before he was then advised to get a COVID-19 test by an unnamed fellow governor after the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives' Congress (APC) which took place on Thursday, June 25. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, on Monday said he was committed to providing comfortable and decent accommodation for soldiers and their families in the barracks. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has warned applicants against patronising fake recruitment sites as no fee was charged for NIS recruitment. The Comptroller General, NIS, Mr Muhammad Babandede, gave the warning in a statement by the Service Public Relations Officer (SPEO), Mr Sunday James, on Tuesday in Abuja. Babandede issued the warning while reacting to the reported existence of fake NIS websites on social media. “ These are by fraudsters with the intention of defrauding innocent and unsuspecting Nigerians of monies. “The Service had warned severally and is still warning good spirited Nigerians to avoid such fake recruitment offer which is not officially posted on the official NIS website. “No fee whatsoever is charged for NIS recruitment,” he said. FG reduces fees for Statutory Marriage in Nigeria

The Federal Government has approved a downward review of the fees chargeable for services related to the Statutory Marriage under the Marriage Act CAP M6 LFN 2004 to commence from Wednesday, July 1. Mr Mohammed Manga, Director Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Interior, made this known in a statement on Monday in Abuja. Manga said the Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola made the disclosure in a Public Notice signed by the Permanent Secretary and Principal Registrar of Marriages in Nigeria, Georgina Ehuriah . Aregbesola said that the adjustment was an off-shoot of the recommendations made by stakeholders at the Sensitisation Conferences held across the country in the third quarter of 2019. According to him, the fees chargeable for the Issuance of Fresh Marriage Licence to a place of Public Worship has been reduced from N30,000 for two (2) years to N6,000 yearly, payable for five years in the first instance. Edo election: INEC closes dedicated portal for parties nominations

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday says it has closed its dedicated portal designed for political parties to submit the details of their nominations for Edo governorship election. Mr Festus Okoye, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC) disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja. Okoye said that the commission did not extend the June 29 deadline fixed for the exercise, which ended at 6 p.m. on Monday. He said that the commission in line with fixed deadline and schedule of activities for the state election shut down the dedicated portal at 6 p.m. Okoye, who did not disclose the number of political parties that met the deadline, promising that the details would later be made public. “The portal for submission was closed on Monday at 6 p.m. For now, I cannot confirm the number of parties that meet up with the deadline, but I should be able to do that by tomorrow (Tuesday)

Gov. Wike orders compulsory Coronavirus test for Govt House workers

The Rivers Government has directed all staff of Government House, Port Harcourt, to go for mandatory COVID-19 test to check the spread of the pandemic in the state. A statement on Monday in Port Harcourt by Mr Paulinus Nsirim, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, explained that the directive was made by Gov. Nyesom Wike. According to him, the on-going increased testing of prospective COVID-19 patients in the state is a commitment to save more lives. An Osun High Court, sitting in Ikire on Monday dismissed reliefs sought by the Akire of Ikire, Oba Olutunde Falabi, restraining the State Government from deposing him. Justice Rasak Abdulkareem , while delivering the judgement, said he could not grant the reliefs sought by the monarch because the processes that brought him to the throne 30 years ago were null and void. Abdulkareem said that with all evidence before the court, coupled with the Supreme Court judgement on the issue, the monarch had no legal right to occupy the stool. Oyo discharges 180 Coronavirus patients, records new death

The Oyo State Government has discharged 180 COVID-19 patients after returning negative for the virus. Gov. Seyi Makinde announced this via his official Twitter account on Monday. Makinde said that the number of COVID-19 cases successfully managed and discharged in Oyo State has risen to 688. He, however said the state recorded one additional death from coronavirus infection, increasing the total death toll in state to 12. The governor said that the state also recorded 66 new cases of COVID-19. “180 confirmed COVID-19 cases received their second negative test results and have been discharged. Mr Realwan Okpanachi, a constitutional lawyer in Abuja, has called on the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), to urgently look into a strange disease ravaging Olamaboro Local Government Area (LGA), of Kogi. Okpanachi made the call during a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Monday in Abuja. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday kicked against the reopening of schools by the Federal Government due to the COVID-19 pandemic currently ravaging the country. Court orders police to pay N15m to families of 3 IMN members

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday, awarded the sum of N15 million against the Nigerian police over the alleged killings of three members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN). Justice Taiwo Taiwo, in his judgment, also ordered the National Hospital, Abuja, to immediately release the three corpses in its morgue. 41 Plateau health workers infected with coronavirus, 8 dead – Govt

The Plateau Commissioner for Health, Dr Nimkong Lar, on Sunday, said that 41 health workers had been infected with COVID-19 in the state, with eight deaths recorded. The commissioner made the disclosure at a press briefing in Jos on the update on government’s efforts at combating COVID-19 in the state. According to him, the state has 330 confirmed cases of the disease out of the 4,076 tests carried out so far. “We have received 3,471 results, with 605 pending. The Private Sector led Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) has donated a 150-bed isolation centre and medical equipment worth millions of naira to the Lagos State Government. Gov.
