Senegal seeks Nigeria’s expertise in counter-insurgency operation

The Inspector-General, Senegalese Armed Forces, Maj.-Gen. Elhadji Niang, has solicited for collaboration with the Armed Forces of Nigeria in dealing with the menace of insurgency in the sub-Saharan Africa. Niang made the call when he paid a courtesy call on Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Lucky Irabor, on Wednesday in Abuja. He said that his visit to Nigeria was to assess the operational readiness of Nigerian troops which include the army, navy and air force and of course the police. 71-year-old woman emerges best PhD graduate at UNILAG convocation

Mrs Felicia Marinze, a 71-year-old PhD student of the University of Lagos, has emerged one of the best graduating students from the institution’s School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS). The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe announced this at a news conference on activities lined-up for the institution’s 51st convocation on Wednesday in Lagos. Scammers conducting fake recruitment in our name NDLEA tells Nigerians

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has alerted the public on the activities of scammers taking advantage of the employment screening exercise conducted by the agency. Mr Femi Babafemi, Director, Media and Advocacy of the agency in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja said that fraudsters are demanding for payment from the shortlisted candidates. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that NDLEA had conducted screening for shortlisted candidates of narcotic officers and narcotic assistants. The agency had on May 12 and June 5, notified the public and job seekers to be wary of messages from persons claiming to be acting on behalf of NDLEA and demanding payments for employment. Okorocha begs court to set aside Imo govt’ decision to seize his property

Former Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo, on Tuesday, urged the Federal High Court, Abuja, to make an order setting aside the seizure and sealing of some of his property by the state government. Okorocha also asked Justice Ahmed Mohammed to restrain the defendants from investigating him or implement the recommendations of the seven panels set up to probe him while he served as the state governor between June 2006 and May 2019 pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit. The University of Calabar, says there are over 42,000 unclaimed certificates by graduates of the institution dating back to 1980 and till date. The Registrar of the University, Mr Gabriel Egbe, said in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, in Abuja, that the unclaimed certificates cut across various faculties and institutes “It has been discovered that there are over 42, 000 unclaimed certificates of the University of Calabar, in various faculties and institutes. Nigeria records 1 COVID-19 related death, 11 new infections

Nigeria on Tuesday recorded one COVID-19- related death and 11 new infections, the Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) has said. The NCDC disclosed this on Wednesday. This, the NCDC said, brings the total infections in the country to 167,543. The new cases, the centre added, were reported in Kaduna-three, Oyo-three, Plateau-two, Rivers-two and Ogun-one. “Today’s report doesn’t include data from Lagos state and the FCT. States with zero cases reported are Ekiti, Kano, Nasarawa, Oyo and Sokoto,” NCDC said. The NCDC said that Nigeria successfully managed 163,985, while 2,120 people died of complications. The centre said that the the country’s active COVID-19 cases is now 1, 399. Senate to debate PIB report Thursday, says Lawan

The PIB was first introduced to the National Assembly over 16 years ago. The Senate will on Thursday debate the report of its joint committees on Petroleum (Upstream, Downstream and Gas) on the Petroleum Industry Bill. Senate President Ahmad Lawan disclosed this on Tuesday after the chairman of the panel, Senator Mohammed Sabo (Jigawa South West), submitted the committees' report. TB Joshua's resting place would be at the church premises. The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) on Tuesday said that its founder, Prophet TB Joshua, would be laid to rest on Friday, July 9, at the church premises in Lagos. Dr Gary Tonge , an international member of the church made this known while addressing newsmen in Lagos on the programmes for the burial of the prophet. Zuma has been ordered to turn himself in to authorities within five days. The Constitutional Court of South Africa has sentenced former President Jacob Zuma to 15 months imprisonment for contempt of court. Justice Sisi Khampepe on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 found the 79-year-old guilty of defying the court's order to appear at a corruption inquiry probing his conduct as president. Zuma's tenure as president between 2009 and 2018 was dogged by numerous corruption allegations involving many of his associates whom he allegedly allowed to plunder the nation's resources for private benefits.
