Wike says the award Buhari bestowed on him attests to his performance

Wike said if anybody asks him to bring his report card, he would show him/her the award.

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State says the award President Muhammadu Buhari recently bestowed on him is evidence that he performed well.

Wike who dedicated the award to God said this on Monday, October 24, 2022, at an event organised in his honour in the state.

The governor attributed the successes of his administration in infrastructural development to the support and encouragement he received from the people of the state.

Wike said if anybody asks him to bring his report card, he would show him/her the award from Buhari, adding that the president attested to his performance.

He said, “We must all work together. Traditional rulers, help Rivers State to move forward. Contractors, all of you should help Rivers State so that Rivers State can be what it used to be, the foundation Dr. Peter Odili laid.

“So I thank all of you, and I dedicate this award to God Almighty and to all of you who have prayed for us to achieve what we have achieved. The award is not to me. It is to all of you. I feel proud to say if the ruling party can say you have done well, who is that person? Let them come and campaign here.

“Bring your report card. I will bring the award and the certificate. President Buhari said I have done well.”

The governor also said he has never promised anybody in the state that he/she would become the next governor of the state.

“I told my people it is God that gives power. There is never any day I sat with anybody. I challenge whoever would say he sat with me, and I promised him he would be the governor.

“If anybody can come out and challenge me, I will resign as Governor of Rivers State.”

“You want to become Governor? Is there anybody who dashed me governor? I worked, I fought for it. You, go and fight.”

Wike, therefore, urged that people should keep agreements reached with anyone.

NYSC Mobilisation & Academic Standards – Raising quality or adding pressure on students?

On September 29, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved a reform linking the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation process to the National Policy for the Nigeria Education Repository and Databank (NERD). By invoking Sections 2(4)(4) and 16(1)(C) of the NYSC Act, Tinubu stated that no graduate, whether from a Nigerian or foreign institution, will be mobilised for or exempted from NYSC without proof of compliance with the NERD policy. In a common man's understanding, the Federal Government has announced that Nigerian students must now submit their final-year projects or thesis before they can be mobilised for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). This policy aims to improve academic standards, ensuring that no student skips essential academic requirements before entering the NYSC scheme . On the surface, this sounds like a laudable idea, but a deeper look reveals a different reality. In many universities, students are allowed to graduate and mobilised for NYSC  ...
