IGP, close aides test negative for coronavirus

IGP Mohammed Adamu has urged all police officers nationwide to adhere strictly to all safety measures in their line of duty.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has tested negative for coronavirus.

According to an official statement on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, the police boss had submitted samples on Friday, March 27.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, was also screened and tested negative for the virus as well.

Others who took the test alongside the IGP are the Principal Staff Officer to the IGP, DCP Idowu Owohunwa; Head of the Force Technical Intelligence Unit, DCP Lanre Ogunlowo; Personal Physician to the IGP, CSP (Dr) Nonye Welle; Medical Officer, Police Clinic, Force Headquarters, Abuja, CSP (Dr) Titus Adegbite; Secretary to the IGP, SP Moses Jolugbo; and five other close aides.

"While noting that policing is a high-contact job with its attendant risks, the IGP enjoins police officers nationwide to adhere strictly to all precautionary and safety measures in the course of their day-to-day activities," the statement read.

The IGP also called on members of the public to voluntarily obey all restriction orders instituted by authorities to successfully contain the spread of the virus.

Nigeria has recorded 135 cases of coronavirus in 12 states - Lagos (81), FCT (25), Ogun (4), Enugu (2), Ekiti (1), Oyo (8), Edo (2), Bauchi (2), Osun (5), Rivers (1), Benue (1), and Kaduna (3).

Nine people have recovered and two have died.

Protesters block East-West road in Rivers, demand action on poverty & hunger

The protesters chose to spotlight the East-west road in the expression of their anger over hunger, poverty and infrastructure deficit in the supposed viable business area.
