The wrist injury Mikel Obi suffered at the World Cup has ruled him out for Tianjin Teda.
Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has reportedly suffered a re-occurrence of his wrist injury with his club Tianjin Teda.
Mikel did not feature for Tianjin Teda in their Chinese Super League club (CSL) clash against Shanghai Shenhua.
He, however, played in the game against Chongqing Lifan which ended in another defeat.
Mikel was however not able to join his teammates as they picked up their first win in three games against Dalian Yifang on Saturday, July 28.
A report by Complete Sports reveals that Mikel missed the last encounter due to fears that the wrist injury is continuing to be a problem to his game.
The Injury sustained by Mikel was while he was on national duty with the Super Eagles at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
In the second group game fixture against Iceland, Mikel picked up the wrist injury as the Super Eagles picked up their only win of the World Cup.
There is no official statement yet by Tianjin Teda about the extent of the injury as suggestions are that Mikel missed the game just due to precautionary measures.
Other media outlets suggest that Mikel’s injury is a reoccurrence of his wrist but that he was rested due to swollen knees.
It was reported that after Mikel participated in the game against Chongqing Dang, he had swollen knees and has been ruled out of training ever since.
Mikel Obi is expected to, however, be fit for the Super Eagles next African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Seychelles in September.
