The Minister of State for Health, Sen. Olorunnimbe Mamora, has said the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 will focus on vaccine procurement in the first quarter of 2021. Mamora said this at the PTF national briefing on Tuesday in Abuja. The minister said that COVID-19 vaccine would be purchased from any available point of sale or country and would be subjected to the National Agency For Food and Drugs Administration and Control regulation. According to Mamora , total number of samples of people tested for COVID-19 in the country is 937,712, number of confirmed cases, 84,811, active cases, 12,190, discharged till date, 71,357 and number of deaths till date, stands at 1,264. He said that the case fatality equals 1.49 per cent. The Family of late Mr Godstime Akugbo allegedly killed by the police, on Tuesday, pleaded with the Rivers Judicial Commission of Inquiry to prevail on the police authorities to release his corpse for a befitting burial. Mr Michael Akugbo, the elder brother of the deceased, on behalf of the family, made the appeal and also demanded for compensation of N50 million at a sitting of the Commission in Port Harcourt. “We want the panel to help us compel the Nigeria Police to release the corpse of our late brother and son to us. We also want the perpetrators of this heinous crime against my brother to be brought to justice. “We also want the Nigeria Police to pay us compensation of N50 million for his death,” Akugbo said. The lawmaker says the proposal is an attempt to legalise child marriage. Senator Biodun Olujimi (Ekiti South - PDP) says a proposal to grant voting rights to married girls under the age of 18 should be rejected by the National Assembly. The National Assembly Joint Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Matters told the electoral commission earlier this month to consider married underage girls as eligible to vote . However, Olujimi told Punch during an interview on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 that the proposal is an attempt to legalise child marriage which is not backed by the 1999 constitution. The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed the 2021 Appropriation Bill of N1.163 trillion, seven weeks after the budget was presented to the Assembly by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The House passed the budget after the report of the appropriation was presented during plenary by the Chairman, Joint Committee on Economic Planning and Budget and Finance, Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti Osa II). The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Gov. Sanwo-Olu had on Nov. 9, presented N1.155 trillion budget for the 2021 fiscal year to the Assembly for approval. The Federal Government has suspended the passports of 100 in-bound airline passengers who failed to take the second test of COVID-19 after arriving in the country. Mr Boss Mustapha, Chairman, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, disclosed this at the national briefing on Tuesday, in Abuja. Mustapha , also, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), said that the names of the passengers would be published on Jan. 1, 2021, while suspension of the passports would last for six months. “With effect from Jan. 1, 2021, passports of the first 100 passengers, who failed to take their day-seven post-arrival polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, would be published in the national dailies,” he said.
