COVID-19: CBN reaches out to Nigerians

The Central Bank of Nigeria has introduced a new set of initiatives to help Nigerians cope with the crippling economic effects of Covid-19. The CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele made this announcement at the recent quarterly Monetary Policy Review (MPR) meeting in Abuja. Part of the initiatives includes a N50Bn targeted loan facility for Nigerians who require small loans to start businesses or help their business stay afloat and for those who might want to make consumptions that will help them live their normal lives in this period of the Covid-19 pandemic. He made it clear that the loans require no collateral. He further stated that banks have been directed to reduce interest rate on loans and extend payment period of current loans so as to help bank customers and businesses affected by the pandemic. LASG destroys 1,700 shanties, recovers illegal substances at Agege

The Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit on Sunday said it demolished over 1,700 illegal shanties and containerised shops around Fagba Railway lines, Agege. The agency’s chairman, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, in a statement issued through its Head, Public Affairs Unit, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed that owners and occupants of these illegal shanties had been served a seven-day ‘Removal Order’. “ This removal order which is from the government was based on a series of complaints about criminal activities around Fagba, Agege,” he said. Since the news of the gruesome killing of 43 rice famers in Borno State broke, Nigerians have been speaking truth to power over the worsening spate of insecurity in Nigeria. On Saturday, November 28, 2020, suspected Boko Haram terrorists slaughtered dozens of farmers, who had converged at a rice field in Zabarmari village, Jere Local Government of the state to harvest rice. According to reports, there were 60 farmers, some of whom were contracted from Sokoto State to to work as labourers in the rice plantation. But while the farmers were harvesting their crops, Boko Haram insurgents attacked the farmers , killed 43, injured six and also destroyed their farmland.
