Mr Olusegun Runsewe, the Director-General, National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC),has joined other Nigerians to condemn the alleged murder of a final-year student of the Lagos State University (LASU). Runsewe in a statement signed and made available to newsmen by his media aide, Mr Frank Meke, said that such an act was against the culture of Nigerians. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the student, Miss Favour Daley-Oladele , a final-year student of LASU was reportedly killed in Osun by her friend and her friend’s mother for money ritual. Runsewe said that the rise among Nigerian youths’ insatiable quest for money through rituals had never been part of our culture. MTN responds to allegations in a US court that it’s paying terrorists. Nigeria’s biggest mobile operator, MTN, and a couple of other firms, have been accused in a U.S. complaint of paying protection money to militant Islamist groups in Afghanistan. Filed in a United States District Court in the District of Columbia last week, the complaint alleges that the firms violated the U.S. Anti-Terrorism Act by paying protection money to al Qaeda and the Taliban, thereby providing material support to known terrorist organizations. According to Reuters, the complaint seeks damages on behalf of U.S. military members and civilians killed or wounded in Afghanistan between 2009 and 2017. Customers of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) say that the company will be creating disquiet and mass protests as it moves ahead with its plans to phase-out pre-paid meters in South-East. A notice to that effect signed by EEDC Network Manager, Mr Jyotirmaya Lenka, dated Dec. 16, was sneaked into consumers premises few days to Christmas. The letter confirmed the move to replace the black box pre-paid meter in use is many South East premises with pre-paid meters from Meter Asset Provider (MAP) commencing from Jan. 1, 2020. However, each customer may cough out about N38,000 to get single-phase new MAP pre-paid meters. The new charge was in line with MAP scheme approved by National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) that was rolled out in May 2019 across several distribution companies. Kano state executive council has approved over N2.5 billion for the construction and upgrading of four health facilities at the newly created four Emirates’ headquarters. The four newly created Emirates are Karaye,Rano, Bichi and Gaya. A statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba and made available to newsmen on Monday in Kano, said approval was part of the outcome of the third state executive Council meeting held at Council chambers, Government House, Kano. He said that the new projects contained in the approval included construction of accident and emergency wards, 22 Bed medical ward, eye centre, ENT clinic and Dental clinic respectively. Other projects the statement said were: physiotherapy unit, laboratory unit, mortuary block, construction of road network, landscaping, overhead tank, borehole and articulation on each of the facilities.
