Pulse Opinion: Why is FG playing games with whistle-blowers?

Image
The federal government appears to be playing games with whistle-blowers. It's messing up a good initiative. There was a time everyone badly wanted to take up a career in whistle-blowing; considering all the stolen monies concealed all over the place. Not anymore. The federal government of Nigeria is messing up a good thing once again. As a result, whistle-blowers are now an endangered specie. The last man who blew a whistle in Ikoyi that led to the recovery of N13B, has been declared a lunatic . You should see him now. He's screaming his lungs out in the press to get paid.   The other day, someone in the president’s anti-corruption advisory committee said the Ikoyi whistle-blower would have the percentage due him reviewed downwards. It will no longer be the 5 percent he was promised, the government says. A tale of 'two' whistle-blowers Now we are being told that they are two whistle-blowers staking claim to the Ikoyi booty. Who cares? "It is a bit...

Tech: The only supermoon of 2017 is happening soon — here's what a supermoon actually is

Image
Supermoons are a rare type of full moon. They appear up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than normal. The only supermoon of 2017 is rising on December 3. But what is a supermoon? And why do we only see one or two a year? Following is a transcript of the video. Supermoons are a rare type of full moon. They appear up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than normal. While the full moon rises about once per month, supermoons can only occur a few times per year — max. That's because the timing has to be just right. The Moon takes about 27.32 days to orbit Earth. During its orbit, the moon passes through two points: Perigee and apogee. Perigee is about 30,000 miles closer to Earth than apogee. A supermoon can only occur at perigee-syzygy, when the moon is full and at perigee simultaneously. This is rare because as the Earth revolves around the sun. the moon's orientation to Earth stays mostly the same. This changes where the Moon is in orbit during each full moon. But supermoons would ...

Tech: The only supermoon we'll see in 2017 is coming this weekend — here's how to see it

The year's only visible supermoon comes on December 3, when the moon, which has an elliptical orbit around the Earth, will come as close to us as it gets. Because the moon travels an elliptical path, it sometimes gets a little closer to Earth, and appears larger in the night sky. This "supermoon" moment is called perigee. During that time, up to 30% more moonlight is showered on us. This Sunday is your chance to get up close and personal with the moon. The year's only visible supermoon (or, perigee-syzygy if you prefer the technical term) happens on December 3 — which means the moon, which traces an elliptical orbit around the Earth, will come as close to us as it gets. At that point, it may appear a little bigger and brighter than usual. According to NASA, when the moon is in the perigee position, it can be up to 14% closer to us than it is at apogee — its farthest distance from our planet, also known as the micromoon. The supermoon can also cause s...
