Coronavirus: CAN tasks FG on proactive measures, canvasses self hygiene

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on the Federal Government to be proactive in containing the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), now that the country had recorded its first index case. Enugu LG elections witness poor turnout but peaceful

Turnout for the local government elections in many parts of Enugu State is generally low as voters are yet to come out, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. NAN correspondents who monitored the elections in the state on Saturday reports that there was voter apathy in the wards visited as very few voters were seen at the various polling units. NAN reports that as at 9.30 am, accreditation had yet to start in most polling units in Enugu East, North and South, Igboeze North and Nsukka Local Government Areas. However, accreditation and voting started simultaneously at about 9: 47am at Maryland Ward 13, polling units 1, 2, 3 and 10 in Enugu South council area. As at the time of filing this report, voting had yet to start in any of the polling units in Enugu North Local Government Area. COVID-19: Nasarawa govt urges residents to maintain hygiene

The Nasarawa State Government has tasked residents to maintain personal and environmental hygiene to avoid being infected with infectious diseases such as Coronavirus, Lassa fever among others. Musa Ibrahim, State Commissioner of Environment and Natural Resources made the call on Saturday in Lafia, while addressing newsmen after the February environmental sanitation exercise in the state. He urged the public to keep their surroundings clean and regulary wash their hands with soap and water and use hand sanitisers. NCDC reiterates commitment to protect health of Nigerians

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reiterated commitment to protect the health of Nigerians, in response to the first COVID-19 case detected in Lagos. The centre’s stance was assured by the Director General, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja, while reassuring Nigerians of safety against COVID-19. Ihekweazu urged Nigerians to discontinue the spread of false/unverified information, and advised that “anyone with credible and relevant information on COVID-19 in Nigeria should call NCDC’s toll-free number: 080097000010. “The NCDC toll-free number is available 24/7 for enquiries. Women circumcision decreased in 5 years - Expert

The 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) has revealed that the proportion of women who are circumcised decreased from 25 per cent in 2013 to 20 per cent in 2018. Mrs Maureen Zubie-Okolo, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, said this in Port-Harcourt at the Media Dialogue for Editors and Reporters on Data-Driven Reporting and Dissemination of NDHS 2019 Result. She said that Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) was widely recognised as a violation of human rights, deeply rooted in beliefs and perceptions over decades and generations. FGM involves partial or total removal of the external genitalia and/or injury to the female genital organs whether for cultural or any other non-therapeutic reasons. Coronavirus: Governors pledge massive response to contain spread

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), says members will deploy massive resources toward forestalling the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), after a case was confirmed in Lagos on Tnursday. Coronavirus: Oyo govt. on high level of preparedness - Commissioner

Dr Bashir Bello, the Oyo State Commissioner for Health, says the state government is on high level of preparedness for any possible outbreak of corona virus in the state. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the recommendation of the National Security Adviser (NSA) that the Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme, Prof. Charles Dokubo, be suspended from office immediately. Mr Femi Adesina, the President’s spokesman, who confirmed this development in a statement in Abuja on Friday night, said the suspension followed numerous allegations and petitions surrounding the Presidential Amnesty Programme. COVID-19: Commission frowns at arbitrary hike in price of face masks, others

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has frowned at the arbitrary increase in the prices of protective face masks and latex gloves by suppliers and retailers of the products. Coronavirus: Lagos govt says 'there are only 100 beds at our treatment centre'

Lagos Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat has said the Coronavirus treatment centre in Yaba area of Lagos, can only take in 100 people. The Infectious Disease Centre, Yaba, a facility built for the treatment of Coronavirus cases in Lagos, can only accommodate 100 patients, according to Obafemi Hamzat, the Deputy Governor of the state.
